Broken Pill, a new book about relationships broken by sexual assault, is coming out next week.
The book is by bestselling author Lauren Stone and tells the story of the woman who was assaulted by a serial rapist while on a night out with friends.
It’s an emotional book about trauma and healing and what happens when those wounds are healed.
“I think that Broken Pill is about the idea that we can’t just think that sexual assault has no effect on us and we can heal ourselves,” Stone told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview for the book’s debut.
“[But] there’s a lot of truth in the idea of not being able to heal ourselves, and I think it’s a very real thing that we should be thinking about, that we’re still not really ready for.”
“It’s a sad story,” she continued.
“It’s not a happy story.”
The book was published last year by New York Times best-seller lists.
Stone told CNN that she hopes to write a second book about the relationship between rape and abuse.
“It was so hard for me to get to this point in my life where I was able to get this book published,” she said.
“I felt like I was finally able to say, ‘You know what?
But I don’t think it will be a perfect book, I think we need to be careful about it being a perfect story.”
