Man rescued from broken leg on scooter, scooter crash in Queensland

A man has been rescued after crashing his scooter on a road in Queensland.

The man was driving from his home in the northern Queensland town of Maroubra to his job at a local supermarket when he hit a tree, causing a major accident.

Queensland Police said the man, in his 20s, was in a serious condition in hospital.

He was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police said he was driving a broken-down Toyota Corolla and was taken to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Queenland police said they were investigating the cause of the accident, but they were not treating it as a crash.

“It is believed the vehicle, which was broken down in Queensland, was travelling on a major road when it collided with a tree on the side of the road,” a statement said.

The man’s employer, The Grocery Supply, said the accident happened just before 8:00am (AEST).

“The customer was in his vehicle and the scooter was in the centre console, which is the centre of the car,” the statement said, adding the customer was a “very lucky” customer who had the scooters “all working” when the crash occurred.

“The man is in a very serious condition at the moment, he is a little shaken up.”

The Grocery Store said it had “unexpectedly” received an email from the driver who wanted to speak to police.

More to come.
